Women’s weaving workshops Broome

In conjunction with the NAAKPA Steering Committee meeting in Broome in mid September, Leila Nimbadja and Junita and Bridgette from Wadeye participated in a pandanis weaving workshop in Broome coordinated by Pat Torres. The workshop was an opportunity to show women in Broome pandanis leaf harvesting and preparation methods and then to demonstrate different weaving techniques.  Pat Torres said this was an important women’s craft which has been lost in the Broome area and that this type of weaving could be used to value add and package bushfoods and bush medicine products produced by local women.  The workshop was well attended.  For further information, please contact Mayi Harvests: https://naakpa.com.au/alliance-members/mayi-harvests
