Mercedes Cove Aboriginal Corporation

Mercedes Cove Aboriginal Corporation is located in the Pender Bay region of the Dampier Peninsula.

Since its incorporation in January 2001, the Corporation has created, developed and grown an Exclusive Coastal Retreat.  In more recent years, Wild Gubinge Harvesting and sales have added to commercial ventures that progressively work towards financial independence and a sustainable Community model.

Mercedes Cove Aboriginal Corporation is 100% Aboriginal owned and operated by Family Members. We are 160kms of Broome on the Dampier Peninsula/Ardi Country.  During the Dry Season, which is April to September at Mercedes Cove, we offer accommodation at our Exclusive Coastal Retreat.  Our Wet Season is from October to March.  Around November we begin preparing for harvest of our wild Gubinge/Kakadu Plum ready for distribution and sale.

In the Kimberley (Western Australia) our fruit is known as Gubinge.  We have easy access to 20 wild Gubinge trees.  We are currently preparing to reticulate a further 50 wild Gubinge trees so as to increase our yield for distribution and sale and will continue to reticulate wild Gubinge trees going forward.   Reason for reticulating the wild Gubinge trees is that with unseasonal watering it will reproduce at least twice a year and each year the size of the fruit increases.  Up until now we rely on our Wet Season rains to allow our wild Gubinge tress to fruit.

We are looking towards the future and hope to build relationships with prospective buyers/purchasers for long-term commitments and possible contracts.   This will ensure economic development in our remote region and will create employment for family members and communities on country.

Gubinge fruit has been internationally recognized as a “super food”.  The fruit is used medicinally (high vitamin c content), in cosmetics and as a natural preservative amongst other applications.  We are looking towards the future and hope to build relationships with prospective buyers/purchasers for long-term commitments and possible contracts.
