Western Australia Gubinge Harvest 2020
Early data coming back from NAAKPA enterprises in Western Australia report a total harvest of just under 7 tonnes. This was similar to the harvest volume in previous years (7 tonnes in 2019) coming from NAAKPA WA enterprises. There were some different challenges this year particularly in the amount of rain hitting the Dampier Peninsula and late in the season. There were also issues around damage to trees and litter caused by people accessing country. This highlights the importance of developing systems of prior informed consent and working with Traditional Owners and Parks and Wildlife to ensure that the Gubinge harvest is sustainable as demand continues to grow.
